Virtual tourist guides supporting sustainable tourism
Updated: 4 days ago
How we can keep supporting sustainable development and responsible tourism? How we can keep the benefits and minimize negative impacts from tourism industry? In the times when traveling is close to zero it seems impossible, but it is not. Forward thinking, open minded tourist guides have an answer.
Supporting sustainable tourism, accelerating local development, making meaningful connections, sharing stories and cultural heritage as well as creating unforgettable experiences has always been priority for some tourist guides. And they are not quitters in the times of unpredictable future for travel and tourism industry and they are not willing to give up on supporting local producers, sharing their cultural heritage and connecting cultures and people from all over the world.
Decision look towards virtual tours was easy, because it is the difference between being able to continue practicing my profession and not being able to guide tours at all, reports one of the attendees of the course to become certified virtual tour guide organized by G-Guides Academy.
A week long course, where tour guides learn how to conduct virtual tours online from live streaming to online storytelling sessions and how to keep their livelihood during hard times for tourism industry and tourist guides is only part of the course. The other part is dedicated to learn and understand, how tourist guides can support sustainable tourism through virtual tours and how they can adjust their storytelling techniques to virtual environment.
It was eye-opening, life-changing experience with transformational learning process where I learned not only how I can keep my profession being tourist guide, but also how I can help other people in my community to keep their jobs and livelihoods for their families with my virtual online tours.
The course was endorsed by World Federation of tourist guides associations (WFTGA) which is also official partner of UNESCO and affiliate member of UNWTO.
